THE BUZZ AROUND MONIN

Monin is dedicated to protecting our ecosystems, especially when it comes to supporting honeybee colonies. Since 2008, we have been recycling our syrup by sending overages to local bee farmers to help feed bees during shortages of nectar-producing flowers. This important, exciting initiative has fed millions of bees over the years, and our network of bee farmers has recently expanded nationwide.

This is how it works:

BEE THE DIFFERENCE
bee_facts
  • Honeybees are dying at an alarming rate! These population declines are a result of five primary stressors that force honeybees to abandon their colonies: habitat loss, climate change, chemical pesticides, invasive plant species and diseases.

  • Bees play an important role in our food production system, pollinating 1 in 3 bites of food we eat. Their hard work is essential to sustaining human and animal lives.

  • Without honeybees, we would lose large percentages of vital foods such as apples, squash, coffee, onions, blueberries and more.

Here are 6 easy ways to get involved!

  • Plant a garden: Help provide a safe habitat for bees to find nutritious sources of food by establishing bee-friendly plants in window boxes, yards, flowerpots and more.

  • Go chemical free: Avoid using harsh chemical pesticides and fertilizers that are harsh for honeybees’ sensitive systems.

  • Trees for bees: Trees provide food, shelter and nesting material bees need to build up their populations.

  • Support local beekeepers: Show your love for the honeybees by purchasing local honey and beeswax products from nearby beekeepers. As a bonus, local honey may help with seasonal allergies!

  • Give back to a honeybee charity: Give your time, energy or money to local beekeeping societies or environmental groups to help their programs grow.

  • Donate a portion of sale to the bees: Restaurant and bar operators* can direct a portion of sales from specialty menu items to organizations with a mission to help save honeybee populations.

*If you are an industry partner looking for more ideas, Monin may be able to assist with recipes and product donations to support the bees.
