Dimitrios Savvaidis – Winner of the MONIN Cup Final 2018

Dimi started off his career at the age of 17. He was a bartender in Greece, country of his inspiration behind his MONIN Cup drink. Two years later, he travelled across the world and discovered Sydney’s cocktail bar scene, which is where he found his passion and drive for our industry.

Dimi then moved to Scotland to live and explore his Scottish heritage. He is passionate and will go above and beyond to deliver delicious beverages; he also could chat about rum for days! 

He won the UK local MONIN Cup thanks to his drink called “The Cliff Diver” made with :

  • 12.5 ml MONIN Watermelon Syrup
  • 25 ml Rye Whiskey
  • 25 ml Chios Mastiha
  • 12.5 ml Lemon juice
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cucumber ribbon
  • Dash of bitters

His drink is inspired from his teenage years growing up on the Island of Rhodes. After long days at work, himself and his close friends used to gather at the top of a cliff and eat watermelon which explains why he is using MONIN Watermelon Syrup. After hours of chatting they used to eventually get up and jump off the cliff which led to the name of my drink “Cliff Diver“.  

His special ingredient: mastiha, a liqueur seasoned with mastic. A resin with a pine flavor gathered from the mastic tree in the island of Chios.

During the final of the MONIN Cup 2018, all the candidates had to create a drink during the Mystery Box challenge. They had to use the MONIN Original Liqueur and find the inspiration. The winning drink is Dimi’s recipe: “3 nights in Paris”, in commemoration of the 3 nights the competitors spent all together in France.

The ingredients are:

  • 10ml MONIN Original Liqueur
  • 5ml MONIN Spicy Mango Syrup
  • 35ml Altos Tequila
  • 20ml Lillet Rosé

Add all ingredients to a stirring jug with ice.

Stir thoroughly with a lemon zest.

Strain into a Nick and Nora glass.

Garnish with a lemon twist.
