DRINK TO YOUR IMMUNITY

MODERN-DAY ELIXIRS
At a time where health is of major concern, people are increasingly looking for ways to strengthen their body’s natural defences. While many have taken to exercising at home or consuming supplements as a means of guarding their overall well-being, some are doing so in an appetizing way — through imbibing low-ABV drinks and mocktails spiked with immune-boosting ingredients. Natural, fresh and flavoursome, these ingredients may just be the best options to reach for when concocting delectable, guilt-free drinks at home.

VIBRANT IN FLAVOUR
Well-favoured for their flavours and varieties, citruses are a great source of an essential nutrient — Vitamin C, which aids the immune system by supporting cellular functions. To enjoy its benefits without overdrinking, citrus-flavoured low-ABV drinks are lighter options that can be savoured throughout the day. Zesty and refreshing, a low-alcohol lime Mojito or sparkling grapefruit mocktail can be easily made at home with fresh citruses, herbs and soda. Rich in Vitamin E, blackberries provide similar health benefits as citruses and are said to improve overall skin health. Offering jam-like sweetness, ripened blackberries can be muddled and mixed with fresh lemon juice to serve up a mocktail version of the classic Bramble.

SOOTHING FOR BODY AND SOUL
Used by ancient Chinese and Indians as a tonic root, the medicinal benefits of ginger have been reaped throughout ages. Fast forward to the 19th century, ginger ale — a sweet drink made from ginger syrup and carbonated water — was often consumed to soothe gastrointestinal irritations. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich spice is believed to fight against infections and the effects of free radicals. A staple in most pantries, green tea leaves offer similar health benefits and are perfect for pairing alongside a low-ABV ginger beer or a fizzy ginger ale mocktail. For a more calming and aromatic drink that relieves stress, ginger and green tea leaves can also be brewed together into a hot tea.
