The best of the best from the coffee industry completed a month-long nationwide competition, MONIN’s L’Artiste Art Bar Throwdown, held at the DC Academy in Seri Kembangan on the 30th September 2019. On top of demonstrating the versatility of the L’Artiste de MONIN topping solutions, the contest provided the perfect platform for budding talents and present latte artists in the industry to showcase their skills and gauge their performance.
Aside from this, the L’Artiste Art Bar Throwdown event also featured inspirational speakers and workshops that included the youngest World Latte Art Competition champion Irvine Quek and 2019’s Malaysia Latte Art champion Nicky Voon, who answered crowd questions and talked about techniques ranging from competition tips to teaching tricks.
For Irvine, competitions are a means of building and developing awareness within the industry: “I get more motivated after joining competitions, because it gives me a clearer goal and focus as a champion.” Nicky believes that competition is how to stay grounded and not get complacent within the industry, “Don’t underestimate your opponents and stay humble.”
With approximately 30 attendants, including the 16 finalists who put their skill set on full display through the latte art throwdown, the intense throwdown lasted about 2 hours to produce three winners who walked away with prizes including up to RM2000 in cash for the champion, MONIN’s L’Artiste set and other products.
